Sherry Thomas & Laura Griffin Backlist Give Away!

02August

If you follow my blog, you know that I’m a huge fan of my home RWA chapter, the Austin RWA. This weekend at the RWA National conference both Sherry Thomas and Laura Griffin won their first RITAs. Sherry and Laura are both phenomenal authors and though I wasn’t able to be there for the ceremonies, I followed the feed on Twitter and was squeeling when they won.

Since they’ve both been incredibly supportive of me and other writers during our journey’s toward publication, I’m excited to be able to return the favor, in some small way.

So to celebrate my sisters in the Austin RWA double RITA wins, I’m giving away Sherry Thomas and Laura Griffin’s entire backlist, which includes their Rita winning novels Not Quite a Husband and Whisper of Warning .

Between now and Wednesday, leave a comment and tell me about your favorite Sherry Thomas or Laura Griffin book or, if you were at RWA Nationals this year in Orlando, your favorite episode from the conference.

So leave a comment and I’ll announce the winners Thursday morning! Good luck and please spread the word about the awesomeness that is Austin RWA!

ARC Give Away: Unspeakable by Laura Griffin

22June

Today is one of those super cool days where I get to give stuff away. I’ve loved Laura Griffin’s romantic suspense since her first book came and out and I make no bones about being a complete and total fangirl. She’s one of only a few authors that I pre-order everything.

For the last few months, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the second installment of her Tracers series and while I’m still waiting to read my own copy, I’m thrilled to have an autographed ARC to give away today!

So if, like me, you’ve been waiting for the next Laura Griffin, here’s your chance to get it early. It won’t be released until next Tuesday but if you win, you’ll have it sooner!

To win: leave a comment between now and noon on Thursday and tell me about your favorite Laura Griffin book. If you’re new to Laura Griffin, pass along some of the great stuff you’ve heard about her work and why you’d like to check her latest work out. Or, just leave a comment saying pick me and you’ll be in the running, too!

BOOKS FOR TROOPS By Laura Griffin

02April

If you’ve never had to really consider what you’d take on a desert island with you, you’ve never deployed. Last year while I was in Iraq, there was nothing I loved more than getting care packages full of books (except when they had books, coffee and chocolate in them). I had incredible support from the RWA community and so it’s time to pass along a great message.

Author Laura Griffin was one author who spent the time to trudge to the post office, stand in line and send me all of the above with one added benefit: she sent me ARCs of her two books that came out last year: Untraceable and RITA nominated Whisper of Warning. So without delay, here’s Laura, asking for support on books for soldiers!

What’s better than chocolate? According to a friend of mine who just spent a year deployed overseas, a good book.

As a civilian, I’d never spent much time thinking about the reading material on most military bases. But I guess it isn’t surprising that it’s geared toward men. When my local Romance Writers of America chapter heard that female soldiers were finding the reading selection a little thin, we started sending care packages containing romance novels, chick lit, mysteries, women’s fiction—basically, whatever we thought women overseas might be missing. The effort continues today with a paperback book drive over on Murder She Writes: www.murdershewrites.com

“These packages mean a tiny space in time where a female soldier can feel like the woman she is rather than the weapon wielding warrior she also is,” says Monica, a soldier who helps get care packages to women in uniform. “These packages let the soldier escape from the sand and stress of a deployment and be somewhere else completely.”

The goal today is 100 books, one for every person who leaves a comment here or on Murder She Writes. Many author friends have generously donated books, and I’ve picked up some paperbacks from the bestseller section of my local book store. They’re all going into the box, along with a few other much-requested goodies, such as blank journals and chocolate!

Please leave a comment and help us reach our goal!

And if you have some books on your hands that you’d like to donate directly, you can contact Monica at: mojo09226@yahoo.com for details.

Laura Griffin started her career in journalism before venturing into the world of writing romantic suspense. Her articles have appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines, and her fiction work has garnered awards from writing competitions throughout the country. Laura currently lives in Austin, where she is working on her next romantic suspense novel.

An Austin RWA Give Away

28March

I’ve bragged multiple times about how much I love my home chapter of RWA, Austin RWA or AWRA to those of us who love her. But today, I get to do something a little extra special as a way to say thank you to the chapter that took such excellent care of me last year while I was far from home.

I’m having a giveaway to celebrate, not one, not two, but three Austin RWA RITA finalists. And I can safely say that, if you haven’t read any or all of these authors, you are missing out.

Tracy, Sherry and Laura are on my auto buy list. Anything they write, I’m reading quite simply because their books rock.

Sherry Thomas’ Private Arrangements is the book that brought me back to historical romance novels. Before that, the last one I’d read had been Laura Kinsale’s The Shadow and The Star. Now, I’m as likely to pick up an historical as I am romantic suspense. So when Sherry sent me a copy of Not Quite a Husband when I was in Iraq, I had the excellent pleasure of being able to give away a copy, because I’d already ordered it. Not Quite a Husband is an excellent novel, not only because its a reconciliation story, which I love, but because the setting is so unique and beautiful and the characters, in class Sherry Thomas style, are deeply and truly flawed.

It takes more than true love for them to overcome their burden, but Sherry always delivers. Not Quite a Husband is a beautiful story and I’m thrilled that it finaled in the RITA.

Tracy Wolff also sent me her first single title Full Exposure while I was in Iraq and all I can say is whoa. The sensuality was intense, the characters beautifully tormented (are you noticing a trend) and the story pulled me right in. It’s deeply moving and beautifully erotic. What’s more, her category romances are incredibly touching and moving, a tough task when you consider that categories are usually much shorter in length. The Christmas Present is also a redemption story and is perfect for the Christmas season or any time of year.

Last but not least, Laura Griffin’s Whisper of Warning was nominated for best romantic suspense. Laura made my to be read list before I’d ever met her. I absolutely loved Feenie and Marco in One Last Breath. I was hooked but I’ve got to say, Whisper of Warning is my favorite Laura Griffin. Courtney is one of the most deeply flawed heroines I’ve ever read and her ability to overcome her past is by far one of the best journeys I read last year. I won’t give it away but the end, when Courtney has to make her choice is one of the most touching scenes I’ve ever read. It brought tears to my eyes.

So it’s with great honor that I’m giving away a copy of all three books today to one lucky commenter. Tell me about your favorite RITA nod from this years nominees and Friday, I’ll pick one random winner to send all three of these incredible books by amazing authors!

Winner will be announced Friday, April 2.
